The Kirche is our homage to the great Australian Shiraz/Cabernet style. The 2017 is a beautifully aromatic wine, with the blackberry/briar Cabernet perfumes giving a real interest on the nose and also adding a degree of balancing finesse to the Shiraz component’s richness and weight. Some rounded tannic grip augurs well for the longevity of this wine, with a lovely gentle, but apparent brace of acidity giving the wine some real vibrancy.

A portion of the Kirche is a co-ferment of Shiraz and Cabernet, with the balance being fermented as single varietals which are then blended prior to settling for bottling. The maturation in most years takes place in predominately or exclusively French oak barriques, on its lees, with the percentage of new oak being between 20 to 30% depending on the vintage. The 2017 Kirche spent 16 months in oak. The density and structure of this wine will allow it to age for at least a minimum of 15 years.
